A private jet that accidentally veered off of a runway at Newark Airport on Thursday caused multiple flights to be delayed and grounded, according to the FAA.
The incident occurred around 1:50 p.m. Eastern time, when a private Embraer business jet was landing at the airport and drove off the designated runway path, damaging one of its wings, reported NBC News New York.
A pilot and a passenger were present on the plane during its landing, but no injuries were reported. There’s no word yet on why the plane skewed off course.
The FAA implemented a temporary ground stop as the plane was removed from the tarmac, leading to significant delays.
As of 5:45 p.m. Thursday, incoming flights from other airports were still being delayed by an average of about 95 minutes, according to the FAA’s website.
The Port Authority is conducting an investigation into the incident. The affected runway will reportedly remain closed until it is completed.
