Mainstream media quickly blamed President Joe Biden’s Thursday debate performance on a cold. The media claimed that the president’s hoarse voice and cognitive difficulties were attributed to his cold immediately following the debate.
Biden’s Thursday night performance began with a noticeably hoarse voice and a series of cognitive missteps. Two of Biden’s aides told NBC News that his poor debate start was caused by a cold.
Kelly O’Donnell, a senior White House correspondent for NBC News, tweeted, “NEW: Two sources familiar with the situation say ‘President Biden has a cold.'”
According to CBS News, roughly forty-five minutes into Thursday’s debate, sources with knowledge of Biden’s debate preparations claimed that he had been fighting a cold for a few days. The outlet reported that a top official claimed Biden had been examined by a doctor during his preparations at Camp David and that the doctor had confirmed the cold. The official also told CBS News that Biden tested negative for COVID-19.
A White House official also told The Hill that Biden had a cold during the debate, while another source told the outlet, “He has a cold, started slow but obviously had started to hit his stride.”

According to Politico, Biden’s team did not make any mention of the alleged cold before the start of Thursday’s debate.
The White House and mainstream media’s attempt to blame the president’s debate performance on a cold came after a series of disastrous moments for Biden throughout CNN’s presidential debate.
“We would be able to wipe out his debt, we’d be able to help make sure that all those things we need to do, childcare, eldercare, making sure that we continue to strengthen our healthcare system, making sure that we are able to make every single solitary person eligible for what I have been able to do with the Covid – excuse me, dealing with everything we have to do with,” Biden said in answer to a question about the economy, before pausing for several seconds and adding, “Look, we finally beat Medicare…” before Tapper interrupted him.
Not long after Biden’s first misstep, Biden appeared to lose his train of thought on a question regarding the issue of immigration. Following the president’s confusing answer, former President Donald Trump said, “I really don’t know what he said at the end of that sentence. I don’t think he knows what he said either.”
