Video: Fire erupts, gunshot victim hospitalized in major city

Miami firefighters responded to a major fire at an apartment building on Monday. In addition to the apartment fire, officials also discovered a gunshot victim who was later hospitalized in critical condition.

According to NBC 6 South Florida, Miami Fire Information Officer Iggy Carroll noted that the fire erupted at roughly 8:15 on Monday at the Temple Court apartments in Miami. NBC 6 South Florida reported that the Miami Fire Department was continuing to battle the massive fire well into the later morning hours.

A video of the fire shows firefighters attempting to contain the fire. The social media account Only in Dade tweeted, “The fire’s proximity to trees and other buildings makes it especially hazardous. Fire crews are working to contain the fire, treat multiple patients, and evacuate residents from the building and nearby structures. Authorities are urging people in nearby buildings to evacuate for safety.”

NBC 6 South Florida reported that all of the firefighters had been pulled from the apartment building partway through the morning and that two firefighters had been treated for heat exhaustion. Firefighters were continuing to battle the flames from outside the apartment building.

Fire officials noted that the fire erupted on the third floor of the building. According to Fox News, firefighters rescued multiple people who had been trapped inside the apartment building. The outlet also noted that approximately 50 individuals had been evacuated from the scene of the fire on Monday. NBC 6 South Florida reported that while some of the apartment residents received medical treatment at the scene, others were transported for treatment.

Currently, officials have not revealed the cause of Monday’s fire.

In addition to Monday’s fire, the Miami Police Department said a man had been found inside the apartment building with a gunshot wound and was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital in critical condition. According to NBC 6 South Florida, law enforcement officials have not determined whether the man’s wounds were self-inflicted or whether a suspect was involved in the incident.
