An Iowa man is accused of killing three people and critically injuring one with a metal pipe, cops say.
He offered “several motives, including that a movie would be made about the killings,” according to the criminal complaint.
Luke Truesdell, 34, of Marion, is charged with three counts of first-degree murder, and one count of attempted murder, according to a June 6 news release from the Linn County Sheriff’s Office posted on X, formerly Twitter.
McClatchy News was unable to find attorney information for Truesdell.
Officers responded to a report June 5 about four people bleeding from the head at an outbuilding on a property in Marion, according to the complaint.
Law enforcement arrived to find three people with blunt-force injuries to their heads, all of whom were pronounced dead at the scene, according to court records.
Deputies found a fourth victim unresponsive but alive, with a blunt-force injury to his head and neck, court records show.
The surviving victim was taken to a hospital in critical condition on June 6, authorities said.
Truesdell remained at the scene and told detectives he hit four people with a metal pipe, the complaint said.
A pipe with blood and hair on it was collected from the scene, according to court records.
Truesdell was captured on surveillance video in the area of the building where the victims were found, the complaint said.
Marion is about a 6-mile drive northeast from Cedar Rapids.
