A newly-released surveillance video from 2016 appears to show Sean “Diddy” Combs, a three-time Grammy award-winning rapper, physically abusing his former girlfriend Cassie Ventura. The video seems to support allegations Ventura previously made in a federal lawsuit that was settled by the rapper in November 2023.
According to CNN, the video, which appears to show Combs grabbing, kicking, shoving, dragging, and throwing things at Ventura, was compiled with multiple different camera angles and was dated March 5, 2016. CNN reported that the altercation matches descriptions of an incident in Ventura’s complaint, in which she claimed that she was subjected to physical abuse at the former InterContinental Hotel in Century City, Los Angeles.
The video shows Ventura leaving a hotel room and walking toward a set of elevators. The rapper was recorded running down a hallway toward Ventura with a towel around his waste. Once he approached Ventura, Combs was recorded grabbing her by her neck, throwing her on the ground, and kicking her. Combs was later recorded dragging Ventura by her shirt toward a hotel room before leaving her and walking away from the scene.
Later in the video, Ventura can be seen using a hotel phone before Combs returns to the scene. The video then appears to show Combs shoving Ventura before he sat down on a chair and threw an object in the direction of his then-girlfriend.

Following the release of the surveillance video, Douglas H. Wigdor, Ventura’s attorney, said, “The gut-wrenching video has only further confirmed the disturbing and predatory behavior of Mr. Combs. Words cannot express the courage and fortitude that Ms. Ventura has shown in coming forward to bring this to light.”
According to CNN, Ventura, who is a singer and model, dated Combs off and on from 2007 to 2018. The outlet also reported that the lawsuit that was settled in November noted that the incident at the InterContinental Hotel took place “around 2016” and that Combs became “extremely intoxicated and punched Ms. Ventura in the face, giving her a black eye.”
CNN reported that the complaint claimed Combs paid $50,000 to obtain the surveillance video footage of the incident from the InterContinental Century City. The singer and model also claimed that she suffered repeated physical abuse for years and that the rapper raped her in 2018.
In a statement to CNN on the day the lawsuit was filed, Ben Brafman, Combs’ attorney, said, “Mr. Combs vehemently denies these offensive and outrageous allegations.” The lawsuit was ultimately settled just one day after it was filed.
