A five-year-old Indiana boy confronted an armed gunman after he and a group of men broke into his home.
Tamika Reid was getting her family ready for the day when a group of men forced their way into her home, terrifying her and her children, including her five-year-old son David, according to a recently resurfaced report by CBS Chicago.
According to footage of the home invasion, David was sitting in his home with two other children and Reid when four men, three of whom were armed, burst into the house after one of the children answered the door.
As the men forced Reid out of the room at gunpoint, David jumped at the armed men, throwing toys and hitting them. At one point, David grabbed onto one of their arms.
“I hit him, and I tried to throw my car at them,” David said, according to CBS Chicago.
South Bend police said the suspects fired multiple shots and fled the scene, Fox13 in Indiana reported at the time. No one was physically injured during the invasion.
“My hero right there,” Reid said. “He said he was trying to hit the guys. My thing was I need to get him out of the house before they do something to my son.”

One of the family’s neighbors told WNDU that she heard gunshots and found the footage shocking, adding, “…our kids play outside, but that’s the first incident like that since I’ve been here. Oh my God, it broke my heart, he was trying so hard to protect his mom and get them out of there.”
South Bend Police Department officials praised the 5-year-old for his bravery.
“A lot of people are saying this little boy is so brave and he deserves a gold star and that’s true, he was extremely brave in this situation,” Christine Karsten, a South Bend police spokeswoman, told WSBT22. “But no little boy, nobody in general, should have to go through something like this so it’s really important we get those who are responsible for this heinous crime off the streets.”
