Police officers shot and killed a 14-year-old armed shooter suspect on Wednesday after an active shooter threat was reported outside a middle school in Mount Horeb, Wisconsin.
The Daily Wire reported that Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul said the armed 14-year-old suspect was a student in the Mount Horeb School District. According to Fox 6, the school district went into lockdown at roughly 11:15 a.m. on Wednesday.
“For a period of time today there was concern that there was an ongoing threat related to this incident. We currently believe that there is no ongoing threat to public safety,” Kaul explained. “But again, this is an ongoing investigation, and we will update the public if any additional threat to safety is discovered.”
Kaul explained that the male student, whose identity has not yet been released, approached the middle school with a weapon before he was confronted by Mount Horeb police officers, according to CBS 58.
“Police officers from the Mount Horeb Police Department responded to a report of an individual with a weapon outside the middle school,” Kaul stated. “Police officers responded to that threat, and they used deadly force.”

An anonymous police source told CBS 58 that the 14-year-old suspect fired his weapon at a group of students who were participating in an outdoor activity. The source told CBS 58 that the teenager’s shots missed all of the students and the suspect was quickly shot and killed by the responding police officers.
While Kaul did not confirm the CBS report, the Wisconsin attorney general explained that multiple police officers were on administrative leave as a result of Wednesday’s incident, including a resource officer who worked at the school district. Officers are typically placed on administrative leave when required to use lethal force.
According to ABC News, Kaul noted that the Wisconsin Department of Justice’s Division of Criminal Investigation is investigating the “entirety” of Wednesday’s incident.
“This could have been a far worse tragedy” Mount Horeb School District Superintendent Steve Salerno said, according to USA Today. “We’re beyond grateful for the community’s support of our beautiful children and our loving staff.”
