An Indiana man is charged with attempted murder after officials say he attempted to shoot several people inside of a Kroger grocery store in Fort Wayne.
On May 24, Richard K. Klaff Jr. went into the Kroger and began livestreaming on Facebook from the store’s bathroom, according to an affidavit.
While livestreaming, Klaff told viewers he was going to shoot 11 people and showed a gold and black handgun, officials said.
Klaff then began to walk around the store. When he passed an elderly man, he said, “I ain’t going to kill no old (expletive) man,” the affidavit said.
Klaff showed viewers on the livestream that he was walking around the store with a gun and said “I’m going out with a bang,” according to officials.
He continued to walk through the store, then as he approached the bakery, he said “I see one” five times, the court documents said. Then he raised his gun and shot six times at a customer and two employees.
Klaff took off and left the store, but police found him shortly after when he was seen at a nearby Dollar General store, officials said. Officers found him and took him into custody.
He told authorities he switched clothing inside the Dollar General store and threw the gun away in a trash bin. When talking to detectives, he asked how many people he shot and if anyone died.
No one was injured, police say, according to WTHR in Indianapolis.
Police investigating the incident recovered six .40-caliber shell casings and found two gunshot holes to the right of where a customer and an employee were standing. Two more gunshot holes were found on the wall above the kitchen door.
He told investigators he “always wanted to kill somebody,” according to court documents. When asked why he chose the people he shot at, he said it was because they were standing with no cover, officials said.
Klaff was arrested and charged with three counts of attempted murder and criminal recklessness, according to court records.
An attorney for Klaff was not listed in court records.
