Former President Barack Obama was spotted Monday in London at 10 Downing Street, the official residence and office of the British prime minister, for a private meeting with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. The meeting between the former president and the British prime minister was described as an “informal courtesy drop in.”

A video posted by Citizen Free Press on X, formerly Twitter, shows the former president waving at reporters outside the prime minister’s residence for a private meeting at 3 p.m. local time.

According to The Independent, a Downing Street spokesperson explained that the former president’s visit to the British prime minister’s residence was an “informal courtesy drop in” that was part of Obama’s visit to London. The spokesperson added, “President Obama’s team made contact and obviously the prime minister was very happy to to meet with him and discuss the work of the Obama Foundation.”

The Barack Obama Foundation was established in 2014 as a nonprofit organization. According to its website, the Barack Obama Foundation’s mission is to “inspire, empower, and connect people to change their world.”

The Guardian reported that the former president and current prime minister of the United Kingdom are believed to have discussed multiple topics during their meeting, which reportedly lasted about an hour. The Guardian noted that one of the topics discussed by Obama and Sunak was reportedly artificial intelligence.

According to The Independent, Obama left the prime minister’s residence shortly after 4 p.m. The former president was recorded leaving the building and entering a Range Rover car with Jane Hartley, who serves as the U.S. ambassador to the U.K. While walking to the vehicle, the media asked Obama to answer some questions, to which he responded, “I’m tempted.”

The Independent reported that the last time Obama visited the British Prime minister’s residence was when the former president met with former Prime Minister David Cameron prior to the “Brexit” vote in 2016. At the time, Obama warned Cameron that the United Kingdom would be at the “back of the queue” for trade deals with the United States if the country followed through with a plan to leave the European Union.

Obama’s private meeting with Sunak was quickly met with widespread speculation on social media.

“If you want to know who’s really pulling Biden’s puppet strings, just look at who’s meeting with the UK head of state today,” one social media user tweeted.

Another social media user wrote, “Obama meeting officials in a Private meeting should tell everyone that this is Obama’s third term and Biden is his puppet/scapegoat.”
