Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) claimed during a Sunday interview that former President Donald Trump “ordered” a “terrorist attack” on the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021. The Democrat lawmaker’s claim came in defense of President Joe Biden’s administration’s perceived weaponization of the Justice Department to target his leading political opponent.

During an episode of CNN’s “State of the Union,” CNN host Jake Tapper asked the Democrat congresswoman how she would address American voters who question the multiple criminal indictments that have been brought against the former president. Tapper asked Ocasio-Cortez what she would say to voters who claim that Trump is not “being treated equally” under the law and that the government is “going after” the presumptive Republican Party’s 2024 presidential nominee.

“Has there ever been a president, Republican or Democrat, that has been subject to this level of criminal charges, indictments, and investigations?” Ocasio-Corez asked in response to Tapper’s question. “This is not about party. This is not about politics. This is about corruption and criminality. We’re talking about an individual who ordered essentially a terrorist attack on the Capitol of the United States in order to retain power.”

Pushing back against criticisms of the Biden administration’s numerous investigations and indictments against the former president, Ocasio-Cortez said Trump is an “unethical individual, who is subject and prone to criminality.”

According to The Post Millennial, Trump has been indicted more than 91 times since Biden took office in 2021. The outlet pointed to previous Gallup surveys that show many American voters have lost confidence in the nation’s criminal justice system as the Justice Department has repeatedly appeared to target the former president.

Despite facing a growing number of indictments, The Post Millennial reported that Trump has experienced an increase in the polls each time he has been indicted by the Justice Department or by Democrat attorneys general.
