Veterans4USA is hosting Snowball 2024, a dinner-dance fundraiser at 6 p.m. Saturday, March 23 at the Harrison Moose Lodge, 5185 N. Clare Avenue.
The event will also include live and silent auctions, 50/50 raffle and a “Lotto Board” with $100 worth of scratch-off tickets and $100 in gift certificates.
An honor Guard will present the Colors and all veterans who attend will be recognised by the branch of military they served in.
Tickets cost $15 per person and the meal will feature roast beef, chicken, pork, potatoes, vegetables, roll, salads and desserts, according to Veterans4USA CEO and founder Mike Rodgers.
“This is the first year we have been the beneficiaries,” he said. “In the past all of the proceeds have gone to the Veterans Freedom Park in Harrison but they no longer needed the money so I was asked if we wanted to be part of it.”
Thus, this year’s proceeds will go toward finding permanent housing for homeless mid-Michigan veterans.
Although that’s his organization’s primary purpose it also provides veterans home furnishings, clothing, food and other services.
Over the past three years Veterans4USA has helped more than 200 homeless veterans find permanent housing, “but there are still a lot more to go,” Rodgers said.
At Gratiot County’s new Heros Center in St. Louis the organization has a monthly food distribution, as well as offering free haircuts and lunches, and most recently added free massages, he noted.
It also provides services at the Farwell VFW Post.
Rodgers, a former U.S.Army sergeant, retired in 2014 and founded Mt. Pleasant-based Veterans4USA the same year.
Advance tickets for Snowball 2024 are available in Harrison at the Moose Lodge, Jackpine Restaurant, Trails End Restaurant and Pizzeria, Snowbird Lanes, and Airport Restaurant, as well as the Trails End Pub in Leota, or by calling Rodgers at 989-418-8797.
More details are also available on the Veterans4USA website and Facebook page.
