The Republican National Committee (RNC) filed a lawsuit Friday against Secretary of State Cisco Aguliar, a Democrat, claiming that the state has “impossibly high” voter registration and that the state has not followed regulations that require it to keep “clean and accurate voter registration records.”

The RNC’s lawsuit states, “At least three Nevada counties have more registered voters than they have adult citizens who are over the age of 18. That number of voters is impossibly high.” According to the RNC’s analysis of the state’s voter registration, five of the state’s 17 counties have voter rolls that appear to be inflated in violation of federal mandates.

Additionally, the lawsuit claims that two of Nevada’s counties have active voter registration rates that are comprised of over 90% of adults citizens. The RNC’s lawsuit warns that the number “far eclipses the national and statewide voter registration rate in recent elections.”

The Republican Party’s lawsuit against Aguliar accuses the state of not complying with the National Voter Registration Act (NVRA), which states that voter registration rolls must keep “clean and accurate voter registration records.”

“Election integrity starts with clean voter rolls, and that’s why the National Voter Registration Act requires state officials to keep their rolls accurate and up-to-date,” RNC Co-Chair Michael Whatley stated in a press release on Monday. “Nevada has universal mail voting and no voter ID requirement, which makes Secretary of State Cisco Aguilar’s failure to comply with the NVRA and provide accurate voter rolls all the more concerning. Securing clean voter rolls in Nevada is a critical step towards ensuring that it will be easy to vote and hard to cheat.”

According to The Daily Caller, the RNC also filed a lawsuit last week against Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson (D-Mich.) over similar claims. The RNC’s Michigan lawsuit accuses the state of having multiple counties with “inflated voter rolls” and failing to comply with NVRA requirements.

The Daily Caller reported that as of March 14, the RNC had filed 79 election integrity lawsuits in 23 different states as part of the 2024 election cycle.
