ESPN media personality Stephen A. Smith slammed Democrats Tuesday for prioritizing illegal immigrants over American citizens. The “First Take” host specifically called out Democrat leaders in New York City for announcing a $53 million pilot program providing pre-paid debit cards for illegal immigrants to buy food and essential supplies while ignoring American citizens in need.
During Tuesday’s podcast episode of the “Stephen A. Smith Show,” Smith suggested that current Democrat policies are going to help former President Donald Trump get re-elected in the 2024 presidential election. The ESPN host claimed that Trump would be a “shoo-in for re-election even if he’s a convicted felon” if American citizens are not properly prioritized.
Discussing Democratic New York City Mayor Eric Adams’ new $53 million pilot program for illegal immigrant families, Smith said, “I see homeless folks in the streets of New York all the time that are American citizens. I damn sure see them in California. We’ve got poor, impoverished, starving people who were born and raised in this nation. How in the hell do we come up with a $53 million pilot program for illegals — but folks who are here legally or born here — we don’t have enough for them?”
Smith also questioned how the United States could send billions in aid to Ukraine and Israel without also helping the “poor and desolate citizens here.”
“How the hell do you print money for foreign countries, but you don’t print that money to help eradicate folks that are starving right here in the streets of America who were born and raised here?” Smith asked.

Smith explained that the way to fix the current issue of homelessness in the United States is to develop a strong economy. He warned that solving the issue of rising homelessness cannot happen with the United States on the “verge of a recession” due to inflation.
“Milk don’t need to cost $7. Bread don’t need to cost $5. Don’t get me started with how much sugar costs. You can talk about employment all you want to; you can talk about the labor participation rate,” Smith continued. “But guess what, if you ain’t making no damn money, and you got to get two jobs, to pay the same prices or to buy the same amount of stuff that you used to buy and the price is higher than it used to be because of inflation, then guess what, what are you really accomplishing?”
Smith concluded that the economic challenges facing Americans today have led to Trump being “on the verge” of re-election since the Trump administration oversaw a “flourishing economy” instead of historic inflation.
