Colorado Springs police on Monday detained a suspect in connection with a fatal shooting in a University of Colorado Colorado Springs dorm room that killed a student and 26-year-old woman Friday.
The Colorado Springs Police Department did not release the name of the person connected to the shooting in a post on X Monday afternoon, stating only that the suspect was taken into custody Monday morning.
Investigators believe it was an isolated incident between people who knew each other and was not a random attack, the department posted on X.
Further information about the suspect and criminal charges “will be provided at a future time,” Colorado Springs police said.
Samuel Knopp, 24, and Celie Rain Montgomery were killed in the shooting early Friday morning in a Crestone House dorm room. The shooting sparked a lockdown on campus and led to classes and activities being canceled and the campus being closed through the weekend.
