“General Hospital” star Tyler Christopher’s cause of death has been revealed, nearly three months after his sudden passing.

According to the medical examiner’s report obtained by TMZ, the 50-year-old suffocated due to the position he was in whilst drunk.

The actor’s cause of death was listed as positional asphyxia due to acute alcohol intoxication, with coronary artery atherosclerosis as a contributing condition, per the outlet.

Christopher died on Halloween, less than two weeks shy of his 51st birthday. After unsuccessful attempts to reach Christopher, a friend found the actor dead in the bedroom of his San Diego bedroom.

Former co-star Maurice Benard announced Christopher’s death to the public, noting that he died “following a cardiac event” at his residence.

Benard remembered Christopher as “truly talented individual that lit up the screen in every scene he performed” as well as “a sweet soul and wonderful friend to all of those who knew him” and “an advocate for better mental health and substance use treatment who openly spoke about his struggles with bipolar depression and alcohol.”

“We are beyond devastated by the loss of our dear friend and pray for his children and his father,” said Benard.

Christopher, who was formerly married to Eva Longoria, appeared in over 1,100 episodes of ABC ‘s “General Hospital” between 1996 and 2016, for which he won a Daytime Emmy Award for outstanding lead actor in a drama series. He last appeared onscreen in the television movies “Ice Storm” and “20.0 Megaquake,” in 2023 and 2022, respectively.
