David Gail, best known for starring as Dr. Joe Scanlon on “General Hospital” spinoff “Port Charles,” died last week of “complications from sudden cardiac arrest.” He was 58.
Gail, who also appeared in series including “Beverly Hills, 90210” and “ER,” was on life support for several days before he was pronounced dead, a representative for his family said in a release obtained by People.
“The family has no reason to suspect the cause of his death was anything but heart failure,” read the release. “David will be remembered for his love of acting and his absolute passion and dedication to his friends and family. He possessed a unique quality that made everyone feel special in his presence.”
Gail’s sister, Kathryn Colmenares, mourned his death on Instagram over the weekend, remembering her brother as “always my wingman always my best friend ready to face anything and anyone w me.
“I will hold you so tight every day in my heart you gorgeous loving amazing fierce human being,” continued the heartrending tribute. “Missing you every second of every day forever there will never be another.”
Gail made his screen debut in a 1990 episode of “Growing Pains,” followed by appearances in “Doogie Howser, M.D.,” “The Round Table,” “Murder, She Wrote” and “Matlock.” He appeared in eight episodes of “Beverly Hills, 90210” as two different characters, including the fiance of Shannen Doherty’s Brenda Walsh. He went on to star in the short-lived “Robin’s Hoods” and “Savannah” — which spanned a season and two seasons, respectively.
His “Port Charles” role spanned over 200 episodes. He also appeared in “ER.” In 2002. His last screen role was in the 2008 film “The Belly of the Beast.” He subsequently voiced a trio of characters in the 2019 video game “Blacksad: Under the Skin.”
