The first trailer for the upcoming “Civil War” movie, featuring Kirsten Dunst, Nick Offerman, Wagner Moura, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Cailee Spaeny, and Sonoya Mizuno, was released Wednesday, as the 2024 race heats up. The movie trailer featured chilling scenes of a futuristic war between a group of rebellious states and the U.S. Capitol.

A24’s first trailer of “Civil War,” which is directed by Alex Garland, portrays a future where the United States is split by civil war, the government conducts air strikes against civilians, and journalists are targeted. According to Entertainment Weekly, the official synopsis of the movie states, “A race to the White House in a near-future America balanced on the razor’s edge.”

The trailer begins by showing multiple scenes of destruction in the United States, alongside news coverage of the future civil war. One reporter can be heard announcing that 19 states seceded from the nation.

Offerman, who plays the role of the United States president in the film, can be heard saying, “Citizens of America, the so-called Western forces of Texas and California have suffered a very great defeat at the hands of the United States military.”

The trailer shows Dunst’s character appearing to lead a group of journalists who are attempting to get inside the U.S. Capitol, despite warnings that journalists are “shot on sight.” Meanwhile, Offerman warns that the rebellion against the Capitol will be quickly defeated.

Toward the climax of the trailer, an intense encounter is portrayed between Moura’s character and Jesse Plemons’ character. Moura’s character tells an armed man, “There’s been a misunderstanding, we are American,” and Plemons’ character responds, “Ok, what kind of American are you?”

According to Variety, “Civil War” was written and directed by Garland and was produced by A24, Allon Reich, Andrew Macdonald, and Gregory Goodman. “Civil War” is currently scheduled to be released for both IMAX and regular movie theaters on April 26 of next year.
