During a recent anniversary event, Julio María Sanguinetti, former president of Uruguay, appeared to mock President Joe Biden after Sanguinetti tripped and fell while stepping onto the stage.
After falling at a press conference marking the 50th anniversary of the civil-military coup in Uruguay, Sanguinetti was quickly helped up before making his way across the stage. In video of the incident, the former president of Uruguay can heard saying, “just like Biden,” as he regained his footing and laughed about the tripping incident in front of the press.
According to Forbes, Biden slipped as he was walking down the steps from Air Force One last week in Michigan, just hours after Axios reported that the Biden administration is taking multiple steps to prevent the president from continuing to trip and fall in public.
According to Axios, the president has been working on exercises with Drew Contreras, a physical therapist, since November of 2021 in order to improve his balance.
In addition to physical therapy, Biden’s doctor, Kevin O’Connor, has prescribed “proprioceptive maintenance maneuvers” for the president to practice strengthening his balance, according to White House health summaries.

According to The New York Post, Biden tripped and fell over a sandbag following a commencement speech at the U.S. Air Force Academy in June.
Since that time, Biden has been seen wearing more athletic footwear instead of traditional dress shoes.
The 80-year-old president also has been using Air Force One’s lower stairs, rather than the typical Air Force One staircase, reportedly due to several stumbles on his way up the flight of stairs. According to The New York Post, Biden tripped three times before falling to his knees in March while climbing Air Force One’s longer staircase.
