Activities are scheduled throughout the four days of the Medal of Honor Convention to honor the recipients and to share the values of the medal of honor: courage, sacrifice, integrity, commitment, patriotism and citizenship.
A community forum, free and open to the public, kicks off the convention at 11 a.m. Oct. 30 at the National World War II Museum.
Four medal recipients, two from the Vietnam War and two from the War on Terror in Afghanistan, Iraq and the Middle East, will join the panel to discuss their experiences and the values of the Medal of Honor.
On Nov. 1, the Parade of Patriots will roll down Convention Center Boulevard from St. Joseph Street to Mardi Gras World, featuring historic military vehicles, Medal of Honor recipients, the St. Augustine Marching 100, floats and more. The parade starts at 6 p.m.
Also on Nov. 1, a virtual event aimed at student in grades 6-12 will showcase medal recipients.
From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 4, the World War II Museum holds a family and military appreciation block party, with tickets for adults at $10. Children, seniors, veterans and veteran spouses are admitted free to the event. Attendees can view the newly opened Liberation Pavilion, and the 30-minute film “Expressions of America.”
A private memorial service at St. Louis Cathedral with the recipients and their families will honor those who have died.
