A U.S. Marine from Northeast Ohio died last week after being shot at a base in North Carolina.
Austin B. Schwenk, 19, died Oct. 18 at Camp Lejeune after an incident in the barracks, officials said. According to WKYC, another Marine is being investigated as a suspect.
Schwenk enlisted in 2022 and belonged to the 2nd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment. He graduated from Riverside High School in Painesville in 2022.
“We are deeply saddened to hear about the tragic loss of Lance Cpl. Austin Schwenk. He was a tremendous young man and will be greatly missed by so many,” Christopher Rateno, the superintendent of Riverside Schools, said in a statement. “Our heartfelt condolences go out to Austin’s family and friends.”

Camp Lejeune is a 246-square-mile base with beaches used for military training for Marines and other armed forces.
