The cause of Matthew Perry’s death requires investigating beyond an autopsy, it was reported Sunday.

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office listed the actor’s cause of death Sunday in its online record as “deferred,” per CNN.

“In cases where the cause of death cannot be determined at the time of autopsy, a deferred certificate will be issued until additional studies have been completed,” according to the LA coroner’s guidelines.

According to the report, an autopsy has been conducted, but examiners are awaiting the results of toxicology reports in order to determine Perry’s cause of death. That report can take weeks to complete.

TMZ, citing law enforcement sources, reported the “Friends” actor was found Saturday at an L.A.-area home of an apparent drowning. First responders reacted to a cardiac arrest call, and Perry was found in a jacuzzi. No drugs were found at the scene, nor is foul play expected.

Perry is best known for his role as Chandler Bing on the hit ‘90s sitcom “Friends,” which ran for 10 seasons.

Investigators are planning to use the toxicology reports to determine whether any foreign substances may have contributed to Perry’s death, according to a law enforcement source.
