The annual Fallen Heroes Tree of Honor Lighting Ceremonies will be held next month at locations in Bloomington, Decatur and Peoria.
The program is sponsored by America’s Gold Star Families Inc. and the Sgt. Anthony Maddox Memorial, and was established to honor active-duty fallen military service members who made the ultimate sacrifice.
Each year, families hang their heroes’ ornaments on the tree following the lighting ceremony, and then attendees from the community can help hang the remaining ornaments.
This year, to support added requests, two additional 9-foot trees will be dedicated, one each at the Decatur and Bloomington locations.
Ceremonies are planned for the following dates and locations:
— 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10, at the Decatur Civic Center, 1 Gary K Anderson Plaza, Decatur
— 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15, at Central Illinois Regional Airport, 3201 Cira Drive, Bloomington
— 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, at the Peoria Riverfront Museum, 222 SW Washington St., Peoria
The trees will be available for viewing through the end of the holiday season.
