Former President Donald Trump recently hinted that he might pick a woman as his running mate in the 2024 presidential race if he wins the GOP nomination next year.
During an interview with NBC News’ Kristen Welker, Trump said he “likes the concept” of choosing a woman as his running mate.
When asked if he was leaning towards picking a woman, Trump responded, “I like the concept, but we’re going to pick the best person. But I do like the concept, yes.”
Trump added that he doesn’t “think too much about it.”
Welker asked Trump if he’d consider South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem for his running mate.
“She’s been a great governor,” Trump said. “She gave me a very full-throated endorsement, a beautiful endorsement, actually. And, you know, it’s been a very good state for me. And certainly, she’d be one of the people I’d consider, or for something else, maybe. But we have a lot of people. We have a lot of great people in the Republican Party.”

Earlier this month, Noem gave Trump her “full and complete endorsement” during a rally in Rapid City, S.D.
“It is my honor to present to you the man in the arena. He is a man of significance. He is the leader, the fighter that our country needs. He has my full and complete endorsement for President of the United States of America. I will do everything I can to help him win and save this country,” Noem said before introducing Trump as the “45th and the 47th president of the United States.”
Noem predicted Joe Biden, other 2024 candidates, their political operatives and the media would “perpetuate ugly, hateful misinformation in an attempt to destroy” Noem and her family over her endorsement of Trump.
“It’s nothing new, and frankly, I’m getting pretty used to it,” Noem said.
