House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) announced a formal impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden on Tuesday after extensive investigations uncovered corruption involving the president and his family.

“I am directing our House committees to open a formal impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden. Over the past several months, House Republicans have uncovered serious and credible allegations into President Biden’s conduct—a culture of corruption,” McCarthy posted on X, formerly Twitter.

In remarks made on Capitol Hill, McCarthy said House Republicans have “uncovered serious and credible allegations into President Biden’s conduct.”

“Taken together, these allegations paint a picture of a culture of corruption. Here’s what we know so far. Through our investigations, we have found that President Biden did lie to the American people about his own knowledge of his family’s foreign business dealings. Eyewitnesses have testified that the president joined on multiple phone calls and had multiple interactions and dinners that resulted in cars and millions of dollars,” McCarthy said.

“I do not make this decision lightly. Regardless of you party or who you voted for, these facts should concern all Americans. The American people deserve to know that the public offices are not for sale and that the federal government is not being used to cover up the actions of a politically associated family,” McCarthy later added.

McCarthy vowed to go “wherever the evidence takes us” and urged the president and his associates to fully cooperate with the inquiry “in the interest of transparency.”

Earlier this year, Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and House Oversight Republicans released an FD-1023 form showing a confidential informant provided the FBI with details on Biden’s alleged involvement in a bribery scheme while he was vice president.

Based on information included in the document, the confidential informant told the FBI that Burisma CEO Mykola Zlochevsky bribed the Biden family with $10 million in an attempt to have the former Ukrainian prosecutor Viktor Shokin fired.

If verified, the FBI form indicates that Burisma hired Hunter Biden to “protect us, through his dad, from all kinds of problems.”

This was a breaking news story. The details were periodically updated as more information became available.
