From a brand new roof to a revamped man cave, a military veteran from Massachusetts and his family are now living in a practically brand new house, thanks to an award-winning home improvement show.

Jason Carmody, of Lynn, felt compelled to join the U.S. military after witnessing the event of September 11, 2001.

He joined the Massachusetts National Guard in July 2003 and joined the Iraq War shortly after. Carmody and his family were the recipients of a home transformation from “Military Makeover.”

The show offers support to military members and their loved ones after they return from service. The show is hosted by Montel Williams, who is a veteran of both the Marine Corps and the Navy.

Renovations on the home started in June and wrapped up at the end of August. The project was made possible through the help of several organizations including Savant, based on Cape Cod, that equipped the home with all new light fixtures from General Electric (GE).

“We are all about supporting veterans, supporting families in the areas where we live and work,” Ben with Savant said during the episode. “We’re happy to support the family with energy-saving products that will help them with their utility bills and also offer them the convenience of being able to control their lights from a single app.”

Of course, the best part of the whole renovation process was the big reveal, which premiered Friday morning, Sept. 1 and was finale of the show’s 35th season. Greeted by a crowd waving U.S. flags on their front yard, Carmody and his wife were blown away after stepping through the door of their home.

“This is unreal,” Carmody said while taking in his refreshed home. The renovations included a brightened living room, more spacious kitchen and updated man cave decked out with military memorabilia. The family was even given $2,500 in Market Basket gift cards to help stock their new kitchen.

People can watch the episode on YouTube or when it re-airs on Lifetime at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday.
