Neil Currey, a renowned 34-year-old British bodybuilder who competed in International Federation of BodyBuilding and Fitness competitions and was a former Mr. Olympia competitor, has died, according to Currey’s former trainer.
“Absolutely shocking, heartbreaking news – that my former athlete @neil_currey died today,” Currey’s former trainer, Milos Sarcev, announced Monday on Instagram. “My last/best memory of him was this smiling face after he won New York Pro and fulfilled his lifetime dream of qualifying for the Mr. Olympia. I am lost for words and filled with pain and sadness. My sincere condolences to his family, friends, and loved ones. RIP Neil, and God bless your soul.”
According to The New York Post, while the cause of Currey’s death has not yet been released, it was initially reported that Currey died as a result of suicide; however, the original Instagram tribute by Sarcev has been edited and does not mention suicide as the cause of death.
According to Generation Iron Fitness Network, Currey debuted as a bodybuilder in the 2017 World Championships, where he placed fifth in the competition’s pro muscle division. After placing fifth, Currey finished number one in the National Physique Committee Worldwide Amateur Olympia Italy competitions, which secured his earning his International Federation of BodyBuilding and Fitness Pro Card and allowed him to participate in competitions against many of the greatest bodybuilders in the world.

Generation Iron Fitness Network reported that Currey eventually became a Classic Physique competitor with the International Federation of BodyBuilding and Fitness, finishing seventh place in 2019 at Kuwwait Pro. Currey also won the New York Pro competition in 2022, which secured his spot at the Olympia competition, where he placed 16th in the Classic Physique division.
“Stunned and beyond saddened by the tragic news that Neil Currey has passed away at the young age of 34,” Rx Muscle wrote in a tribute to Currey on Instagram. “We pass our most sincere and deepest condolences to Neil’s family, friends, and to all of his fans around the world.”
