Dire Straits guitarist Jack Sonni died on Wednesday at age 68, the band revealed.
The band confirmed the rock star’s death on X – formerly Twitter – posting a black and white photo of Sonni with the caption “Rest In Peace,” accompanied by guitar and prayer emojis.
Just three days before his death, DSL Dire Straits Legacy alerted fans that Sonni was struggling with “health problems.”
“Dear fans, unfortunately Jack Sonni will not be able to participate in our next gigs because of health problems. Jack, get better soon, we are waiting for you! with love, the DSL family,” the group posted on Facebook.
Fans of the guitarist left heartfelt comments on the band’s X post.
“I worked at Kramer in the 80’s and Jack would call for parts he needed when doing repairs at Rudy’s. He told me how Mark Knopfler would jam with him at the store when he was in town,” one X user posted. “Then Mark asks him to join the band. Storybook. Jack was a true gentleman. Godspeed my friend.”
“Part of the greatest era of Dire Straits was Jack and he was a great guitarist himself,” another user wrote.
“My heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, bandmates, and fans. A truly sad loss. RIP Jack Sonni,” a third user commented.
Less than a week before Sonni’s death, WWE legend “Bray Wyatt,” whose real name was Windham Rotunda, passed away suddenly at age 36.
While Wyatt hadn’t been seen on screen since February 2023, and according to The Daily Caller, Wyatt’s scheduled face-off with Bobby Lashley at WrestleMania in April 2023 was interrupted, leading to reports of an undisclosed illness. The tragic cause of death has been identified by wrestling reporter Sean Ross Sapp as a heart attack.
