The Eastern Military Zone on Saturday carried out an operation, foiling attempts to infiltrate and smuggle narcotics from Syrian territories.
A source at the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army (JAF) said that Border Guards, in coordination with the Anti-Narcotics Department and other military apparatuses, spotted a group of smugglers who attempted to cross the Syrian-Jordanian border, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Army personnel applied the rules of engagement, which led to the wounding of some infiltrators and the retreat of others back to Syria, the source said, adding that army personnel searched the area, resulting in the seizure of 63,000 Captagon pills and 588 palm-sized sheets of hashish.
Stressing the JAF’s commitment to safeguarding national borders, the source emphasized the army’s zero-tolerance policy against all parties involved in any action that threatens national security.
