Most Americans believe the United States military has become too politicized, according to a new poll from America’s New Majority Project.
Over 80% of likely general election voters agreed the military “should focus on defending America from foreign threats and avoid inserting itself into heavily politicized social issues,” the poll found.
“Mainstream candidates and activists are on much firmer ground with a message of keeping the military focused on defending America and avoiding politics than they are focusing on the specifics of gender ideology and critical race theory, which alienates younger and minority voters,” America’s New Majority Project said in a statement to American Military News.
The survey also revealed 59% percent of likely general election voters believe the military is “more politicized” now than it has been in previous years, and 57% said policies catering to transgenderism, as well as diversity, equity and inclusion, are contributing to that politicization.

Just over half of likely general election voters said they prefer “A Republican candidate, who believes the U.S. military should focus on defending America from foreign threats and steer clear of politicized social issues” over “a Democratic candidate, who believes in an ‘all of government’ approach to achieving social change, including the U.S. military.”
Thirty-five percent said they prefer the Democrat candidate described above, while 13% responded, “I don’t know.”
“Candidates and activists are on much firmer ground with a message of keeping the military focused on defending America and avoiding politics than they are focusing on the specifics of transgender ideology and critical race theory, which alienates younger and minority voters,” the poll concluded.
The national survey was conducted by Mclaughlin & Associates with Gingrich360 for
America’s New Majority Project and involved 2,000 likely general election voters. All interviews were conducted online between May 18-21, 2023
