Pic: Fmr. NFL quarterback with Super Bowl ring attacked online over bear hunting photo

June 29, 2023

Carson Wentz, who is currently a free agent quarterback in the National Football League, and won a Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles was attacked online after a recent hunting trip to Alaska.

Wentz, who has played for the Philadelphia Eagles, Indianapolis Colts, and most recently, the Washington Commanders, shared the results of his recent black bear hunting trip to Alaska on Instagram.

“Got the opportunity to spot and stalk black bear in one of our new favorite places on earth— Alaska!” Wentz posted on the Wentz Bros Outdoors Instagram account, which he shares with his brother Zach Wentz. “Incredible trip and an incredible animal.”

In addition to the description of his hunting trip, Wentz shared a photo of a large dead black bear, which he hunted and killed during his time in Alaska.

According to the New York Post, black bear hunting is legal in the state of Alaska, as long as hunters follow all of the state’s hunting regulations.

While Wentz received congratulatory posts from NFL players such as Taylor Heinicke, his former teammate on the Washington Commanders, and Jay Cutler, the former quarterback of the Chicago Bears, Wentz as attacked online over the hunting photo.

On Instagram user commented, “Hope next time (the) bear wins and you lay down,” while another Instagram user wrote, “Incredible animal so you kill it?? Makes sense.”

The New York Post shared comments from a third Instagram user, who claimed Wentz’s post “changed” their “whole perspective” of the free agent quarterback.

“That’s just awful! I can’t believe you killed a bear for sport,” they said.

According to the New York Post, Wentz is currently studying film with Jon Gruden and hoping to launch a successful NFL comeback effort, following his release from the Washington Commanders in February. Wentz only played in eight games throughout the 2022 season as the Commanders decided to start Heinicke over Wentz.

At least two Instagram users pointed to Wentz’s current situation as a free agent in their criticism of the quarterback.

“We know your football career is over, so you have to do another thing for a living. But this is not the way! Respect the animals, the nature. It’s not for your fun,” one Instagram user commented.

Another Instagram user said they were “glad the Eagles dumped” Wentz and suggested that the quarterback concentrate on “getting better at throwing the ball” rather than hunting.
