Human remains found by hikers on a rugged Southern California mountain have been identified as actor Julian Sands, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
Sands, 65, who starred in several Oscar-nominated films, including “A Room with a View,” was reported missing Jan. 13 after not returning from a hike on Mount Baldy, McClatchy News reported.
Mount Baldy is the highest peak in the San Gabriel Mountains, about 45 miles northeast of Los Angeles, according to Condé Nast Traveler.
The sheriff’s department has been looking for Sands in the five months since his disappearance, most recently searching on June 17, according to a Twitter post from the department.
Hikers found a body, now identified as Sands, a week after the search on June 24, McClatchy News reported.
The manner of Sands’ death “is still under investigation,” deputies said.
Sands starred in major roles in films throughout the 1980s and 1990s, including “Warlock,” “Arachnophobia” and “Naked Lunch,” according to the actor’s IMDB page.
