During prom season, some teens are focused on getting the right tux or making sure they have a date for the special night.

For Portland, Oregon, high school junior, Sherman Bynum, it was about pulling up to his prom’s venue in a very special ride.

M3A1 World War II military tank to be precise, according to KPTV.

Bynum had the dream of riding in a military tank to prom after he found Steve Greenberg, a man who had one and would charge $1,000 to use it, according to FOX 29 and KOIN.

The boy’s school told attendees they would set up a special parking lot at the Portland Art Museum “for students to arrive in style,” according to the outlet. After talking about the idea with his friend, Sam Tetro, the two boys started to gather money.

The boys took to GoFundMe where they raised more than $600 over their goal, according to the fundraising page. They assured the public that the act was “perfectly legal” and the tank would be “safely within road limits.”

The teens also recruited a man known in the area to play flaming bagpipes on a unicycle to give their entrance a soundtrack of the “Star Wars” theme, according to KPTV.

“I never thought he’d pull it off and here we are,” Sherman’s mom told FOX 29.
