Shooting at Las Vegas middle school; adult shot, police say

An adult was wounded in a shooting at a middle school in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Monday, according to police. The victim was transported to University Medical Center.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) posted an update on Twitter, writing, “#BREAKING The school has been cleared by law enforcement and there are no additional injuries at this time. All students are safe and accounted for. CCSDPD is coordinating a controlled release of students. The Suspect is still outstanding.”

In an earlier post, the LVMPD tweeted that they were investigating “a shooting at Von Tobel Middle School at 2436 N. Pecos Road. An adult was struck by gunfire and has been transported to UMC. This incident is still active, but there appears to be no further threat at this time. The suspect is still outstanding.”

The school’s principal, Leonardo Amador, sent the following message to school families at the time:

The safety of our students is the number one priority at Von Tobel Middle School. As always, we want to keep you informed of important issues happening within our school community. The school has been placed on a hard lockdown due to a police investigation. Students are safe in their classroom. We will provide additional updates as information becomes available.

According to KVVU, several schools in the area also went into lockdown, including two elementary schools.
