Former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder’s wife has lost her job at NRW.Global Business, a trade and investment agency of North Rhine-Westphalia, after she and her husband attended a Victory Day event at the Russian Embassy in Berlin on May 9.

The agency announced on May 16 that it was terminating relations with So-yeon Schroeder-Kim, who represented the agency in South Korea.

Gerhard Schroeder was chancellor from 1998-2005. He has been known for his involvement with Russian state energy giants Rosneft and Gazprom and with Nord Stream AG, which operates undersea gas pipelines leading to Russia.

The links were damaged last year by explosions that are still under investigation.
