A former Biden administration official was arrested on Wednesday as a “Fugitive From Justice,” according to Montgomery County, Maryland police logs.
Former senior Department of Energy (DOE) official Samuel Brinton, who describes himself as “nonbinary,” was arrested at his home in Rockville.
A witness who lives near Brinton told The Daily Wire that “four unmarked police showed up last night, they would not let his spouse Kevin leave. After about an hour Sam Brinton was escorted out in handcuffs.”
Briton is reportedly being held in jail without bond.
According to 18 U.S.C. § 921, a fugitive from justice is “any person who has fled from any State to avoid prosecution for a crime or avoid giving testimony in any criminal proceeding.”
Earlier this year, Brinton was ordered to pay around $4,000 dollars after he was caught stealing luggage at Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas, Fox News reported.
At the time, Clark County Judge Ann Zimmerman also included a 180-day suspended jail sentence for Briton’s actions, and ordered the Biden appointee to “stay out of trouble.”
“Brinton demonstrated several signs of abnormal behavior while taking the victim’s luggage which are cues suspects typically give off when committing luggage theft,” investigators wrote in a report late last year. “Specifically, Brinton pulled the victim’s luggage from the carousel and examined the tag.”
“Then placing it back on the carousel, looking in all directions for anyone who might be watching, or might approach,” the report continued. “Pulling it back off the carousel and demonstrating the same behavior by looking around before walking away with it quickly. Brinton only having checked one piece of luggage, which Brinton had already claimed from the carousel, had no reason to be examining and taking any other pieces of luggage.”
This was a breaking news story. The details were periodically updated as more information became available.
