Alec Baldwin calls the completion of his latest film, Rust, “nothing less than a miracle.”
The star and co-producer of the western, whose cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was accidentally shot and killed on set in October 2021, posted a celebratory message on Instagram.
“Last day of filming RUST in Montana,” he wrote Monday alongside a photo of “Rust” co-stars Patrick Scott McDermott and Frances Fisher. “It’s been a long and difficult road. But we reach the end of the trail today.”
Baldwin also offered a shoutout to director Joel Souza who, along with Hutchins, was hit with a bullet fired from Baldwin’s gun while the movie was being filmed in New Mexico. Hutchins, 42, died in Albuquerque, while Souza survived his gunshot.
Baldwin and the “Rust” crew moved their set to Montana 18 months later and got back to work at the Yellowstone Film Ranch.
The 65-year-old actor was charged with involuntary manslaughter in January. In April, his attorneys said the criminal charges against the Emmy winner had been dropped.
Baldwin told CNN last August the trials and tribulations of filming “Rust” took “years” off his life, and that fallout from the on-set tragedy cost him multiple jobs.
In October, Baldwin and the film’s production company settled a wrongful death lawsuit with Hutchins’ family. Following the settlement, her widow, Matthew Hutchins, joined the team as an executive producer of “Rust.”
