A memorial for a Phillipsburg boy who died unexpectedly last week is planned for this weekend.

Relatives of Jonathan Ader Jr. said the 12-year-old became sick suddenly on Sunday, April 16. He was found dead in his home on April 17, his family said.

The memorial for Jonathan will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Devlin Funeral Home in Phillipsburg and is open to the public.

Jonathan was a student at Phillipsburg Middle School where he enjoyed studying math and science, according to his obituary. He also loved his video games, like Pokemon, Mario and Zelda, and his two dogs Sandy and Batista, and his cat, Asta, his grandfather said.

“He always had a smile on his face, and didn’t have a mean bone in his body,” Ader’s grandfather Michael Ader told lehighvalleylive.com on Thursday.

He is survived by his mother and father Kasha Heinrich and Jonathan Ader Sr.; his maternal grandmother Alice Heinrich; paternal grandparents Michael Ader and Mary Jane Schubert; uncles Peter Ader (Holly) and Michael Ader (Jessica) and his pets.

Phillipsburg School District held a district-wide dress down day on April 21 to raise money for Jonathan’s funeral costs. The school raised $4,900 for the family, school officials said.
