Authorities responded to a multi-vehicle crash on the Korean War Veterans Memorial Parkway at 1 p.m. on Saturday near the Annadale Rd. exit, an emergency response that caused the left lanes of the highway to be closed in both directions.

The incident was reported at 1:01 p.m. and, according to emergency transmissions, additional medical help was requested because children, who were visible being rescued from one of the vehicles, were involved in the crash.

According to reports from Citizen, five people were injured; the FDNY did not immediately confirm that report.

Several FDNY vehicles and at least four damaged cars were spotted on the side of the road.

Police advise drivers to avoid the area. At 1:45 p.m., Google maps continued to show traffic backed up along that portion of the highway.
