Former-President Donald Trump is expected to appear in court on Tuesday after a Manhattan grand jury voted to indict the 45th president over alleged hush money payments made in 2016 to adult film star Stormy Daniels.
According to a person familiar with the matter, Trump is expected to turn himself in and appear in court on Tuesday, April 4 at 2:15 p.m., the Washington Post reported. This it the first time in American history that a former president has faced criminal charges.
The Post reported that Trump is expected to be processed like any other criminal defendant, which includes fingerprinting and mug shots.
Trump posted about the developing situation on his social media platform Truth Social on Friday, writing:
The Judge “assigned” to my Witch Hunt Case, a “Case” that has NEVER BEEN CHARGED BEFORE, HATES ME. His name is Juan Manuel Marchan, was hand picked by Bragg & the Prosecutors, & is the same person who “railroaded” my 75 year old former CFO, Allen Weisselberg, to take a “plea” deal (Plead GUILTY, even if you are not, 90 DAYS, fight us in Court, 10 years (life!) in jail. He strong armed Allen, which a judge is not allowed to do, & treated my companies, which didn’t “plead,” VICIOUSLY. APPEALING!
The former president also shared a new Quinnipiac Poll, which asked: Do you think the Manhattan DA’s case involving former President Trump is mainly motivated by politics or mainly motivated by the law?
According to the poll, 62 percent of respondents believe the indictment is politically motivated, compared to 32 percent who believe it is motivated by law.
Trump reportedly previously said he wants to be publicly handcuffed and “perp-walked” into the courthouse in order to turn the process into a “spectacle,” the sources said.
This was a breaking news story. The details were periodically updated as more information became available.
