A Conway man was arrested and charged Tuesday for exploiting a minor after the Horry County Police Department received a cyber tip from the National Center of Missing and Exploited Children in September.
Michael John Eberhardt, 48, of Conway, was booked Jan. 10 at the J Reuben Long Detention Center and arrested for five charges of third degree sexual exploitation of a minor, according to the booking website.
According to an incident report, on Sept. 20, the Horry County Police Department received a cyber tip from the National Center of Missing and Exploited Children, NCMEC, in reference to Dropbox finding evidence of child pornography on its servers.
The files Dropbox reported to NCMEC contained sexually explicit material of juvenile females.
On Jan. 10, The Horry County Police Department conducted a Dropbox search warrant on Eberhardt’s cellphone at his residence on Chateau Drive.
He remains incarcerated as of Thursday afternoon.
If you suspect a child is being sexually exploited online, you can report it on the National Center for Missing and Exploited children’s website or call 1-800-THE-LOST.
