A Holland man has been arraigned for his involvement in an armed standoff with police earlier this week.

Philip Sheridan, 82, was arraigned via video on Tuesday in the Holland District Court by Judge Juanita Bocanegra. Sheridan was charged with unlawful imprisonment and felonious assault and remains in the Ottawa County Jail with a $25,000 cash/surety bond.

Sheridan faces the charges after he barricaded himself and two employees — a 50-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman — while armed with two knives, inside Property Law Solutions, an attorney’s office, on Monday.

Capt. Jake Sparks of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office said the department’s crisis negotiation team was able to communicate with Sheridan and eventually take him into custody. He was not injured, and was lodged at the Ottawa County Jail.

Sparks said neither of the employees were injured. A nearby business was evacuated during the standoff.
