A 33-year-old man was found dead Saturday afternoon in Lincoln Park, eight hours after a burning vehicle he had been driving was located about a half-mile away, authorities said Sunday.

The death of the man, whose identity was not immediately disclosed, is not believed to be suspicious, according to the Morris County prosecutor’s office.

Firefighters and police officers who arrived at a commercial area on Ungerer Road at 7:16 a.m. Saturday encountered the burning vehicle, a 2019 Mercedes CLS. The man was not inside and authorities did not say whether there had been any passengers.

The fire was extinguished but the investigation remained ongoing at 3 p.m. Saturday. That’s when the man’s body was located in a wooded area in Lynn Park, a half-mile away from the fire scene, authorities said.

The cause and manner of death is pending a determination by the Morris County Medical Examiner’s office.

“At this time there is no indication of suspicious criminal activity,” read the statement from the prosecutor’s office.

In addition to the prosecutor’s office, the Morris County Sheriff’s Office, Lincoln Park Police Department and the Lincoln Park Fire Department are involved in the investigation.
