Italy plans to be a leading player in rebuilding war-ravaged Ukraine and helping make it a “competitive” country, foreign minister Antonio Tajani told the Senate upper house of parliament on Thursday.
”It’s right that Italy take part in reconstructing Ukraine and we hope the war there will finish as soon as possible,” Tajani said in remarks at a briefing on the western Balkans.
”We’ll be leading the reconstruction so that Ukraine can become a country of the future with competitive infrastructure. Ukraine’s rebuilding will be an integral part of the internal market,” Tajani said.
“We cannot fail to be present in that phase given all the military and logistical efforts we continue to make,” Tajani said.
Italy has been a steadfast supporter of Ukraine in the 11-month-old conflict with Russia and has supplied over a billion euros of military, humanitarian aid and credit to the former Soviet republic.
