A 14-year-old girl was hospitalized for self-inflicted cuts on Tuesday night after police and emergency services were called to the Houston, Texas home of Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX).
Houston police told ABC13 and KHOU 11 that they responded to a call about a girl who had suffered self-inflicted wounds on her arms at Cruz’s residence in River Oaks. Officers arrived at the residence at around 8 p.m. local time on Tuesday night.
Police did not say whether the call involved a member of Cruz’s family. A representative for Cruz’s office did tell ABC13 that the police activity involved a family matter.
“This is a family matter and thankfully their daughter is okay,” a Cruz representatives told KTRK. “There were no serious injuries. The family requests the media respect their daughter’s privacy at this time.”
Cruz has two daughters, aged 14 and 11-years-old.
As of Wednesday morning, Cruz has not addressed the incident at his home through a direct public statement or on social media.
