Former President Donald Trump officially launched his 2024 president campaign on Tuesday night. Trump announced his candidacy on Tuesday night saying “America’s comeback starts right now.”

As the former president and his wife Melania Trump entered a ballroom at his Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach, Florida, an announcer said, “”Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome the next President and First Lady of the United States of America, President Donald J. Trump.”

As Trump began his remarks, he said, “ladies and gentlemen, distinguished guests and my fellow citizens, America’s comeback starts right now.”

“It’s official: Trump files FEC paperwork to seek the presidency in 2024,” Townhall managing editor Spencer Brown tweeted with an image of Trump’s candidate filing.

“Two years ago when I left office, the United States stood ready for its golden age. Our nation was at the pinnacle of power, prosperity and prestige, towering above all rivals, vanquishing all enemies and striding into the future confident and so strong,” Trump continued.

Trump said all President Joe Biden had to do after winning in 2020 was “sit back and watch.” But Trump said America is now “a nation in decline” under Biden.

“For many Americans, the last two years under Joe Biden have been a time of pain, hardship, anxiety and despair,” Trump said. “As we speak, inflation is the highest in over 50 years, gas prices have reached the highest levels in history and we expect them to go much higher now that the strategic national reserves which I filled up have been virtually drained in order to keep gasoline prices lower just prior to the election.”

Biden responded to Trump’s Tuesday night announcement with a campaign style ad and a tweet saying “Donald Trump failed America.”

The announcement comes after Trump hinted at another White House run during a recent rally in Sioux City, Iowa.

“In order to make our country successful and safe and glorious, I will very, very, very probably do it again,” Trump said. “Get ready that’s all I’m telling you — very soon. Get ready.”

Trump recently took another swipe at Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis – his most likely competitor in the 2024 Republican primary – sharing a video of journalist Megyn Kelly saying the governor couldn’t beat Trump in a race for president.

“I AGREE!” Trump said on his social media site TruthSocial over a video of Kelly’s remarks from a recent episode of “The Rubin Report.”

In the video, Kelly told BlazeTV host Dave Rubin that Trump “sucks up all the energy in every room, no matter what, and even someone as skilled as a politician, and smart policy-wise, as DeSantis can’t overcome that. He can’t.”

She also said “the hardcore Trump faithful is unshakeable,” adding that they “like DeSantis, but they don’t think it’s his turn.”

This was a breaking news story. The details were periodically updated as more information became available.
