An 11-year-old boy is dead after an apparent hunting accident in Wisconsin, state officials say.
The boy was part of a group hunting deer near the town of Seneca in Green Lake County, roughly 110 miles northwest of downtown Milwaukee on Sunday, Nov. 20, the state Department of Natural Resources said in a news release.
Around 9 a.m., a 41-year-old member of the party was trying to unload a gun in the backseat of a vehicle when the firearm went off, hitting the boy in the chest, according to the release.
He was flown to a hospital where he died from his injuries. The boy’s identity has not been released.
“The Wisconsin DNR and the Green Lake County Sheriff’s Office express our sincere condolences to the family and friends of those impacted by this loss of life,” the release said.
Officials didn’t say if the hunter will face any charges.
