Former President Donald Trump took another swipe at Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Thursday, sharing a video of journalist Megyn Kelly saying the governor couldn’t beat Trump in a race for president.
“I AGREE!” Trump said on his social media site TruthSocial over a video of Kelly’s remarks from a recent episode of “The Rubin Report.”
In the video, Kelly tells BlazeTV host Dave Rubin that Trump “sucks up all the energy in every room, no matter what, and even someone as skilled as a politician, and smart policy-wise, as DeSantis can’t overcome that. He can’t.”
She also says “the hardcore Trump faithful is unshakeable,” adding that they “like DeSantis, but they don’t think it’s his turn.”
Trump supporters believe the former president was “screwed out of his last election” and even a fair chance at his first term as a whole, and “deserves another shot at it,” Kelly says.
They also “think DeSantis owes his political career to Trump. If forced to choose, they will choose Trump,” she says.
Both Republicans are thought to be leading candidates for the 2024 presidential nomination. While neither have announced campaigns, Trump has been increasingly vocal against the governor, who is often described as a more strategic and disciplined version of the former president.
Trump did not invite DeSantis to a rally he’s set to hold in the governor’s state two days before the midterm election, according to POLITICO.
The former president recently took aim at the governor in another TruthSocial post criticizing his endorsement of a Colorado candidate who spoke against Trump.
In an unedited version of the “Rubin Report” conversation shared by Trump, Kelly says her opinion is based on conversations with Trump supporters who call into “The Megyn Kelly Show.”
She tells Rubin the only path to the Oval Office for DeSantis is “to either be crowned by Trump, or he shouldn’t run.”
