A Russian nuclear-powered submarine that is rumored to carry a “doomsday weapon” has disappeared from its Arctic harbor, according to multiple reports.

Russia may be planning to test the “Poseidon” weapons system on the Belgorod submarine, officials warned Italian media, Fox News reported. The “Poseidon” is a drone or guided torpedo equipped with a nuclear warhead that Russia claims can create a “radioactive tsunami.”

The submarine can deploy this “doomsday” weapon at any time near a coastal city, Russian state media claimed, adding that the weapon can cause a 1,600-ft. wave that crashes into the coast and exposes it to radiation.

The Russian submarine is part of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s top-secret program to create new “super weapons.”

Strategic intelligence expert Rebekah Koffler said Russia will likely only use the deadly weapon “in the event that Russia and the U.S. are in a direct kinetic war and Russia is losing.”

She added that Putin may be testing the weapon to intimidate Ukraine and its allies.

“There have been times when Russian nuclear-powered attack submarines, armed with long-range cruise missiles, operated undetected for weeks close to U.S. shores,” Koffler said.

Late last month, Putin made veiled threats to use nuclear weapons if Russian territorial integrity is threatened as he announced the partial military mobilization of 300,000 reserve troops.

During his announcement, Putin said western nations “have even resorted to the nuclear blackmail.” Putin said he referred to “the statements made by some high-ranking representatives of the leading NATO countries on the possibility and admissibility of using weapons of mass destruction – nuclear weapons – against Russia.”

“I would like to remind those who make such statements regarding Russia that our country has different types of weapons as well, and some of them are more modern than the weapons NATO countries have.” he said. “In the event of a threat to the territorial integrity of our country and to defend Russia and our people, we will certainly make use of all weapon systems available to us. This is not a bluff.”
