Three hand grenades with an explosive label washed up on an Oregon beach, authorities said.
The devices were reported in the “Newport area, between Yaquina Bay State Park and Agate beach” on Tuesday, Oct. 4, the Newport Police Department said in an alert.
The devices are white M116A1 Hand Grenade Simulators with a label that reads “Warning Explosive,” police said. They are often used in military training to simulate battle sounds, but they aren’t deadly.
“The Oregon State Police Bomb Squad responded and seized the devices,” police said.
Police warned those who may encounter “such a device” to “not handle or attempt to move it.”
Rather, police said, call to report the device’s location.
Newport is about 95 miles northwest of Eugene.
