Four seals representing four branches of the U.S. military that were stolen from an Alabama veterans cemetery were returned to the burial ground, the state Department of Veterans Affairs said Wednesday.

The seals for the U.S. Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps. and Air Force were snatched last month from the memorial wall at the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spanish Fort.

They were recovered in good condition alongside Alabama Highway 225 and delivered back to the cemetery, which has 5,000 graves for Alabama military veterans and their spouses, last Friday.

A seal representing the U.S. Navy was stolen but has not been found.

“It remains incredibly frustrating trying to comprehend that someone would steal from a Veterans cemetery, but we know this disrespectful act does not represent the wonderful residents of Baldwin County and the Gulf Coast,” Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs Commissioner Kent Davis said in a statement.

Anyone with information on the theft was asked to call the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office at 251-937-0202.
